HOW IT ALL BEGAN...
Glenn Howlett began lead-lighting as a hobby back
in 1988 after an injury at work forced him to retire from that job.
He began working from home making lead-lights for people.
After attending a TAFE lead-lighting course, Glenn's interest
in glass expanded to kiln formed, fused and slumped
glassware and he purchased his first kiln. He became a foundation
member of a local craft co-operative called the Old
Bank Artel, from where his sold his work. After attending workshops
at the Jam Factory in Adelaide, he ventured into
glass blowing as well.
WILLUNGA STUDIO, COMMISSIONS & CLASSES...
In 1995, Glenn purchased his present studio at
the top of High Street, Willunga. Here a great variety of beautiful glass
ware
is created for the public to purchase. Lead
light repairs and restorations are another important part of Glenn's
service to the public. Glenn also conducts
lead light classes and fusing workshops. He does commissioned
work for individual customers (many of them
coming back for more of his unique work) as well as for public institutions.
ALL FORMS OF GLASSWORK...
Glenn's glasswork involves all forms of glass
decoration; glass powders, chips, shards and stringers.
He uses hot, warm, and cold glass
techniques to create his unique pieces and panels.
EXHIBITIONS...
Over the years, Glenn has shown his work in
exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. He has also been involved
in the Festival Fringe and SALSA exhibitions and his
work has also been shown in many prominent Adelaide galleries and Art
Exhibitions. His glassware has also found its way
overseas.
Glenn has been twice commissioned by the
Onkaparinga Council to make trophies for the world famous Tour Down Under.
SEA THEMES...
Having grown up by the beach, Glenn is a keen
fisherman and surfer and the sea's inspiration
shows up in the many unique fish and sea
themes in his work.
